- The version of you that got you here won't get you there.
The version of you that got you here won't get you there.
Welcome to On The Rise - a space for those navigating identity shifts, life transitions, and the often quiet realization that you’ve outgrown who you used to be. Let’s evolve with intention!
This week's newsletter is a 2-minute read (640 words).
Different versions. Different roles. Different Seasons.
There’s a version of you that got you here. And that version:
worked hard.
survived things they didn’t talk about.
adapted, figured it out, and kept going, even when it would have been easier to stop.
That version was a badass! And for a long time, that version was exactly who you needed to be.
But that version can’t carry you forever.
At some point:
the habits that once protected you start holding you back.
the mindset that once kept you safe starts keeping you small.
the identity you built to make it through that period of your life no longer aligns with the life you’re trying to create.
And that’s where things get uncomfortable. That’s where confusion and doubt start to creep in. Because growth doesn’t just ask you to do more, it asks you to become different.
The version of you that got you here won’t get you to where you want to be.
And a lot of people get stuck in that transitional period.
They try to build a new life using the same patterns, thinking, and standards that created their current one.
They want different results without becoming a different person.
But it doesn’t work like that.
You can’t think your way into a new life with an old identity.
You can’t create expansion from a place that’s still operating in protection/survival mode.
You can’t become the next version of yourself while holding onto everything that kept you where you were.
Trust me, I’ve been in that in-between space more times than I can count. To be honest, I’m there right now.
It’s that space where who you’ve been no longer fits, but who you’re becoming isn’t fully formed yet.
It’s disorienting and uncomfortable because it can feel like you’re losing parts of yourself.
And in a way, you are. But not in the way you think.
You’re not losing yourself. You’re transitioning between versions of yourself that were built for different seasons.
As the saying goes: every level of your life requires a different version of you.
This doesn’t mean a completely new person. Just a refined on.
And to get to that next level, and through the transitional period, you have to ask yourself - “Who do I need to become to live the live I WANT to live?”
Once you start answering that honestly,
your decisions change.
your habits change.
what you tolerate changes.
what you pursue changes.
And eventually, you’re on the other side of the transition, and you and your life has changed. And you’re living in a new season of your life as the version of you that can carry you through that season.
Cheers, to your evolution.
